Layered beneath bathroom humor are subtle jokes that please the high browed crowd. And yet, each episode (at least the good seasons) is a narrative predicated on completeness and lack of predictability

True Detective

The first season is one of the best things I’ve ever watched. It is magnificent. I’m a sucker for surrealist noir, magical realism, and excellent performances. Deep in the rural and impoverished wilderness of the antiquated South, one finds the heart of cosmic darkness and hope.

Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul

I not only appreciate Gilligan’s encyclopedic attention to detail; I find it worth every accolade it receives, and then some. Of course, this is classic for novels of great caliber in the past century. Every detail is woven into a pristine narrative, beautifully filmed.

Doctor Who

There are a couple reasons I put this here, one being its legacy. And although it has gone off the rails into a sanctimonious lambasting script, there are phenomenal moments. Indeed, I stood in awe of one of the greatest episodes I’ve ever watched (“Heaven Sent”), a masterpiece.
