A Quiet Place
John Krasinski took a bit of a detour from his Jim Halpert days and boy am I glad he did! This movie does what all great horror films do: it makes you care about the characters. This is a family drama with a horror backdrop, top-tier performances, and brilliant writing.

Paranormal Activity
Don't let the sequels make you forget how good the first one is. Made on a budget of $15,000, this movie taught us all that great filmmaking doesn't need bells and whistles. The first trailer was clips of screaming audiences. And the movie delivered.
